What changes when you convert M2TS to F4V

    • Because F4V supports H.264 just like M2TS does, the video stream can be carried across without a quality-costing re-encode.

    • Embedded subtitle tracks will be lost. M2TS can carry them inside the file; F4V has no place to store them, so export them separately first if you need them.

    • Only one audio track will be kept. M2TS can hold several, for example alternate languages, but F4V supports a single track.

    • Anything above Full HD (1080p) will be downscaled, because that is the practical ceiling for F4V where M2TS reaches 4K UHD.

    • F4V is built for streaming and progressive download, so the result starts playing before it has fully loaded, which the source format does not do well.

    About M2TS to F4V Conversion

This page converts M2TS video, stored in the BDAV MPEG-2 Transport Stream container since 2006, into F4V, which uses Flash MP4 and dates from 2007. The codecs each container accepts decide whether the picture has to be re-encoded.

M2TS comes from Blu-ray Disc Association and dates to 2006. It usually holds H.264, MPEG-2, or VC-1 video with AC-3, DTS, or LPCM sound, and those streams set the ceiling for anything converted out of it.

F4V comes from Adobe and dates to 2007. It holds H.264 video alongside AAC audio, and every major platform needs a media player such as VLC to open it.

After converting your file, you can use Scriptivox transcription services to convert your audio to text. Perfect for meetings, interviews, podcasts, and more.

    M2TS to F4V: common questions

Does converting M2TS to F4V reduce audio quality?
Only if the video has to be re-encoded. Where the codec carries across unchanged, quality is preserved.
How much bigger or smaller will the F4V file be?
It depends mostly on bitrate. M2TS typically runs near 28 Mbps at 1080p and F4V near 6 Mbps, and size tracks that difference closely.
Where can I play F4V files?
Out of the box, no major platform plays F4V; viewers need a media player such as VLC. Choose it when the format itself is the requirement.
What happens to subtitles and extra tracks?
They are lost. F4V has no container slot for subtitle tracks, so export them as a separate file before converting if you need them.
Do I need an account to convert M2TS to F4V?
No. You can convert without an account, and a free account raises the size and length limits. Either way your file is used only to make the conversion, and the download link expires after one hour.
