How to make SRT subtitles from M4A

M4A is the AAC audio format Apple uses. iPhone Voice Memos, GarageBand exports and Zoom's audio-only recordings are all M4A files. Upload a .m4a file and Scriptivox turns the speech in it into timed SRT subtitles, the format YouTube, Vimeo, VLC, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve all accept.

    1. Upload your M4A file

On an iPhone, open the memo in Voice Memos, tap Share and save it to Files, or AirDrop it to your Mac. Zoom puts an audio_only.m4a file in the folder of each local recording.

    2. Choose the language

Leave it on auto-detect or pick one of more than 100 languages. Turn on speaker recognition when more than one person talks.

    3. Check the timing and download SRT

Read every line in the editor, fix any word, then download the .srt file, ready for YouTube, your video editor or your player.
