What changes when you convert M2TS to ALAC
This extracts the audio and discards the video entirely. The soundtrack inside a M2TS file is typically AC-3, and it is re-encoded to ALAC on the way out.
Expect a much smaller file. Video accounts for most of the bytes, so about 206 MB per minute becomes roughly 6 MB per minute of ALAC.
Choosing lossless ALAC means nothing further is lost, though it cannot exceed the AC-3 track stored in the source video.
Subtitles do not survive audio extraction, since an audio container has nowhere to store them.
When a video holds several audio tracks, the main one is extracted; alternate language tracks are not merged into the result.
