Only the soundtrack survives: the video stream is dropped, and the AC-3 audio inside the VOB file is re-encoded as Vorbis.
The size drop is dramatic because the video stream is where nearly all the data lives. A minute of VOB runs around 49 MB; the extracted OGG is roughly 1.6 MB per minute.
Any subtitle tracks in the source are not part of an audio file and are dropped during extraction.
The source can carry more than one audio track, for example alternate languages or a commentary. Extraction takes the primary track.
This tool takes the audio track from inside a VOB file, a DVD-Video (MPEG-2 PS) container from 1996, and saves it on its own as OGG. Everything visual is left behind.
VOB comes from DVD Forum and dates to 1996. It usually holds MPEG-2 video with AC-3, DTS, LPCM, or MP2 sound, and those streams set the ceiling for anything converted out of it.
OGG comes from Xiph.Org Foundation and dates to 2000. It carries lossy-compressed audio (Vorbis), and without installing anything it plays on Android.
