Both containers can carry H.264, so this conversion is largely a container change rather than a full re-encode. That keeps quality intact and makes it fast.
If the source has subtitles baked in as a separate track, they will not survive: MTS does not support embedded subtitle streams.
Resolution is capped by the target format. TS handles up to 4K UHD material, while MTS is designed for Full HD (1080p), so higher-resolution sources are scaled down.
Expect the bitrate to move from roughly 15 Mbps to about 23 Mbps at 1080p, and file size to follow.
MTS dates from 2006 and is not natively supported by modern browsers, so plan on a desktop media player for playback.
