This extracts the audio and discards the video entirely. The soundtrack inside a MTS file is typically AC-3, and it is re-encoded to Vorbis on the way out.
Expect a much smaller file. Video accounts for most of the bytes, so about 169 MB per minute becomes roughly 1.6 MB per minute of OGG.
When a video holds several audio tracks, the main one is extracted; alternate language tracks are not merged into the result.
Extracting OGG audio from a MTS video pulls the soundtrack out of the AVCHD container and writes it as a standalone Ogg file. The video stream, which holds most of the data, is discarded.
Developed by Sony / Panasonic in 2006, MTS carries H.264 video and AC-3 or LPCM audio. That combination sets the upper bound on what any conversion can preserve.
OGG was introduced by Xiph.Org Foundation in 2000. It holds lossy-compressed audio (Vorbis) and plays natively on Android.
